I’ve always liked electronic music as much as the next guy, but if I had to pick one recent record that reopened my eyes to the potential of the genre as a whole and inspired me start digging deeper into the huge expanse of music available in the past few years it would be You, the 2010 EP from London’s Gold Panda. The sitar-based compositions and manipulated static felt like a portal into an alternate history. Go listen to that one now if you haven’t yet, and when you’re done, check out his latest, the Trust EP, just released today. (And then go laugh about how mad his fans are in the comments thread on this Charli XCX video that samples “You”). Trust is another collection of mood-altering, vaguely-eastern-sounding crackling that should open even more doors, literally and figuratively.
