Feng Chen Wang S/S ’18 Was ‘Made in China’

For her Spring ’18 collection, designer Feng Chen Wang channeled the phrase every American knows and has, at some point, worn: Made in China. Though, this reference hits a little closer to home for the designer, whose actually from the region. Inspired by the country’s signature color (red), and hues from its rural landscape, Wang created a modern sportswear collection, with a ’90s twist. Large overalls and oversize windbreakers hinted at a hip-hop undercurrent, while Wang’s innovative use of shape reflected her skill as a tailor. And while most young designers have trouble breaking out of the art school look for their first few seasons, the VFILES alum has a grasp on what exactly she wants Feng Chen Wang to do: stay cool, but also transcend the hype of VFILES. Though other brands would use that buzz to sustain multiple seasons, Wang lets her designs speak for themselves.
