Is there anything more romantic than Lil Wayne? Alright, maybe just one thing: this spine-tingling cover of his acoustic love song “How 2 Luv” by Beldina, the Swedish songstress that’s about to come your new obsession (just ask Kanye West – she was recently signed to G.O.O.D. Management). Being sad and single is all the rage these days (just ask Instagram) so there really couldn’t be a more appropriate song to binge-listen to this Valentine’s Day. “2017 has to be the shittiest time to try to form a relationship with someone you like or love cause everyone just acts ‘casual,’” Beldina says. “The sad truth is so many people are in love and not together. And so many people are together and not in love.”
According to the artist, here’s why we, as human beings with two ears and a beating heart, were gifted this cover:
“I was in the car with my friend when this song came on, it gave me chills cause it felt like Wayne specifically was describing how I was feeling at the moment. I’ve been hard to love for the longest time cause I didn’t think I deserved it.
When I got to the studio the next day the song was still stuck in my head. I pressed record, started jamming on the Rhodes and free styled my way through the track in one single take. When I cover a song like this that I feel a connect to its not about battling the original artist, it’s about paying tribute to them… Even if a song has been done a thousand times, you can still bring something of your own to it. I’d like to think I did that.”
Yeah girl, you did. At the end of the day, this is one artist that’s going to bring something unique to every track: that goddamn voice. Sure, 2017 may be a shitty year for relationships, but you can bet it isn’t going to be a shitty year for Beldina. And for the record, these days, when it comes to romance, she knows exactly what she deserves. “My thing is if you love someone, there’s nothing casual about that,” she says. “I’m not casual and I’m not just girlfriend material. I wanna be your queen and your homie at the same time cause we’re in it together.”
And as for Valentine’s Day, all you single folks can take a page from Beldina’s playbook, because she’s got it all figured out. “I’m just gonna take care of myself tonight,” she says. “I want to buy a new set of lingerie, maybe take a bath, put some expensive lotion on and just chill all clean and relaxed.”
For the rest of you, we suggest one simple amendment to that near-flawless plan: listen to this track repeatedly. We literally dare you to not get full-body chills.
