EWAN MCGREGOR: “I love Mike Mills, I fell in love with Mike Mills doing the film. He’s an incredible man, really, and a brilliant director. But he’s a brilliant director because he’s an artist. He’s a graphic artist and you know, he designed a lot of the Beastie Boys’ album covers. So first and foremost, he’s an artist. He’d be perfect for BULLETT actually, because he’s got a really interesting aesthetic. And because he’s an artist, the way he makes a movie is just an extension of that art. And so to work with him is to work with someone who’s truly got a vision and an idea and a style. The way he puts the importance on the acting, the playing of the scenes, the characters, and so you feel entirely satisfied as actor creatively. At the end of the day you come home and you feel like you’ve really explored something emotionally whereas a lot of films you go home very depressed that you haven’t explored anything. It’s got a feeling about it, this film, just the way it looks and sounds and flows is very moving.
Him and Miranda July are an incredible couple. They met, I think they met at Sundance, the film festival with both of their first films. He was there with Thumbsucker and she was there with Me and You and Everyone We Know. they met on the kind of film festival circuit and now they’re going around with their second films, and they’re bumping into each other at the same festivals again. But what an amazing couple! Two really interesting directors. And he says they don’t really talk about their work at home, they don’t read each other’s scripts. They keep their work quite separate from each other.”
