We finally have a first look at Elle Fanning’s upcoming film, About Ray, in which she plays a trans teen. The sneak peak, offering some insight into the drama’s plot, shows us a frustrated Ray (Fanning) struggling with the realities of transitioning.
In the teaser, we watch as Ray’s mother (Naomi Watts) slowly leans toward accepting her son’s decision, while Ray’s absent father (Tate Donovan), resists the change. And of course, any multi-generational film wouldn’t be complete without Susan Sarandon, who play Ray’s grandmother, acting as a one-man peanut gallery making offensive one-liners like, “Why can’t she just be a lesbian?”
About Ray hits theaters September 18. Watch the trailer via Vanity Fair, below.
