Sculpture was the theme at Each x Other’s Fall ’17 presentation, from the literal interpretation of Robert Montgomery’s poem, to the exceptional tailoring. But there’s also something inherently cool behind designer Ilan Delouis and Jenny Mannerheim’s aesthetic, collaboration at the crux of their brand DNA. The duo’s fusion of art and fashion, along with their own differing design perspectives, creates subtle and effortless ready-to-wear as rooted in creativity as it is in wearability. The result is a seamless marriage of contemporary fashion and visual art, with AW ’17 serving as the finished product after years of experimentation. From oversized pockets to poetic silhouettes, Each x Other’s latest collection embodies the idea of wearable fashion as fine art.
Emphasis on wearable—that really is the key to Each x Other’s charm. There’s definitely something to be said about the kind of art Rei Kawakubo continually sends down the runway. But realistically, no one’s going to be wearing those space age sleeping bags any time soon. That’s where Delouis and Mannerheim seem to have found the secret ingredient—Each x Other is both highly conceptual and undeniably on-trend. Statement shirts? Yup. Furry pool slides? Check. But Each x Other turns them into something different—something more. With their AW ’17 collection, the brand makes a strong case for the importance of both artistry and industry.
