Drink and a Movie: Matt Pilieci’s ‘Chinatown’

+

New York City is full of mash-up establishments that try to be all things to all people, but one of our favorites has to be the Blind Barber in the East Village, where a top-notch trim comes with a drink. Matt Pilieci is one of the slingers behind the bar, and when we asked him to partake in this brand new feature—where we ask bartenders to mix a drink inspired by one of their favorite movies—he chose an all-time classic.

“This is a take on one of my all time favorite movies, Chinatown, and one of my favorite cocktails a Negroni. I chose to use a dry California based gin because of the drought and water scandal throughout the movie. The plot is based in part on real events that formed the California Water Wars. It also takes place in 1937, Los Angeles, California.”

1 1/4 ounce Blade Gin
1/4 ounce Aperol
1/4 ounce Antica sweet vermouth
1/4 ounce Amaro ciociaro

Garnish with an expressed orange peel.
