It always seems like such a reasonable plan at the time, drinking her or him away, doesn’t it? While it may serve in the short run, memories have a way of resurfacing once the bender ends. And yet we still try, as Hayley Thompson-King reminds us, in her song “Drink Her Away.”
She and her band stopped into Live at Armory Sound in Somerville, MA, to record a video for the song that’s as bare-bones and still as the song’s raw nerve emotion.
“It was inspired by my overhearing of a friend’s conversation about this guy who we all knew who just kept fucking up his relationship with a supposedly good woman,” Thompson-King says of the song. “The part I heard was this: ‘Just drink her away Chuck, drink her away.’ I weirdly see myself as both characters in this song…both the drunk and the woman lost.”
