Looking to drink in secrecy and relive the days of speakeasies and jazz, minus the Belle Époque dress code? One of New York’s most historical hideaways, The Tippler, located below Chelsea Markets, offers just that. Here, their resident cocktail maestro Glenn Lucci pays tribute to summer in Woody Allen’s Rome with this zippy new beverage, To Rome With Love.
“To Rome With Love, the cocktail, is based on three great Italian drinks: The Negroni, The Americano, and The Aperol Spritz. I chose gin made in Wisconsin as an homage to my home state. This drink represents the summer I spent in Rome as an awkward Wisconsinite among beautiful Italians, and it reminds me of Alec Baldwin’s character in the Woody Allen movie. He’s the sarcastic and invisible at times voice to a cheating couple (The awkward Jesse Eisenberg and the babe Ellen Page). He has a smirk the whole film, and his humor is quick. I imagine him sipping the drink and offering his advice, because the drink is sweet with a bite, and my sentiments of once living in Rome.”
The cocktail will feature the following: aperol, white vermouth, deaths door gun, peychauds bitters lemon and soda. Served in a highball with grapefruit peel
