It’s been a year since Steve Carell left The Office, and the change in the show’s quality wouldn’t be described by most as “positive.” We know one thing, at least: Carell has no plans to reprise Michael Scott’s goofiness, despite the obvious ratings boost it would bring. Talking to the Los Angeles Times about his newest movie, Carell said a guest appearance hadn’t been discussed. “Do you really think that people want to see Michael Scott again? I think the people who say they want to see Michael Scott reappear would be ultimately slightly disappointed,” he said. “I think you always wish for something that you don’t sincerely want to come true. And I think in a way it’s better to imagine where Michael and Holly are at this point than actually see it.” That said, it’s hard not to imagine Michael being seen for at least one shining moment if and when The Office ever ends, given its relentless sentimentality. But at the rate it’s going, that’s a pretty big “if”; I imagine Jim will still be making wacky faces at the camera well into middle age.
