“You and me, we’re both fucked up,” begins the heavily-effected vocal on “Ashes In the Air”, the staticky collaboration between The Flaming Lips and Bon Iver from last year’s The Flaming Lips And Heady Fwends. “But you’re fucked up in the good way,” sings a baby with a man’s face being carried around by a rainbow-glowing astronaut with an eye for a head. “And I’m fucked up in the bad.”
That last line is a perfect description of the video itself. Eventually the unlikely duo come across groups of naked people cradling bodies with their brains removed, hovering over the exposed meat like confused zombies on ecstasy who don’t know whether to have dinner or cuddle. And you thought the video of that Louisville basketball player snapping his leg in half was gong to be the grossest thing you watched all week.
It gets worse from there. For the grand finale, well, actually you should just go watch it yourself. I mean, you shouldn’t really, but you will.
