This past weekend, Discwoman celebrated its first birthday under the hazy neon glow at Bossa Nova Civic Club, the same place they threw their first party only a year agoSaturday’s star-studded, of course, all-woman line-up included Juliana Huxtable, Honey Dijon and Sandunes, and the party lasted until the wee hours of the morning. A year ago Emma Olson, Frankie Decaiza Hutchison and Christine Tran founded Discwoman as a platform to spotlight female-identified DJ talent oft dismissed in the testosterone-heavy electronic music world, and in only a year they’ve become a well-known fixture of Brooklyn’s techno and dance communities. Saturday was a well-deserved celebration.
