This is why we can’t have nice things. Just when it seemed like Dave Chapelle, whose comedic talents are only matched in their swollen intensity by his newly developed deltoids, was ready to come out of his mysterious, self-imposed shell on the Funny Or Die Oddball Festival, an antagonistic reception from the crowd in Hartford on Thursday reportedly sent the funny man into a “break down” on stage. Audience members in attendance detailed the awkward show.
Dave chappelle has been on stage 30 minutes, and has not told one joke. He’s reading a book and smoking.

So Dave Chapelle just went on stage, told jokes for around 3 minutes, and the audience wouldnt stop yelling things at him so he stopped

After apparently being heckled for extended periods of time, Chapelle sat on stage reading from a book and smoking cigarettes, before instructing the DJ to play “New Slaves” and walking off. No other conflicts with any of the other performers on the bill seem to have been reported.
This is all shaky information pieced together through tweets, keep in mind, so it’s possible, or even likely, that it’s somewhere in between the hyped-up criticism and the fawning apologists.
