In a stunt that launched a million junk food jokes, Lady Gaga had a “vomit painter” Millie Brown, uh, do art all over her body on the #Doritos #Boldstage at #SXSW on #Thursday. Billboard reported on the rest of the antics here. Shocking stuff! And we’re all very impressed, to be sure. But one observer didn’t find the proceedings admirable. Demi Lovato has been tweeting her disappointed reaction to Gaga’s brand of #pukecore, saying that it glamorizes eating disorders (via Gawker).
“Sad… As if we didn’t have enough people glamorizing eat disorders already,” Lovato tweeted. “Bottom line, it’s not ‘cool’ or ‘artsy’ at all.”
Yes. This surely was all very glamorous.
“Would you let someone bring a needle and shoot up on you? Addiction is addiction.”
I would probably not do that. I just got back from Austin myself, by the way, and the only thing I’m addicted to now is engaging with cool youth oriented brands.
“Putting the word ART in it isn’t a free card to do whatever you want without consequences,” Lovato continued.
It’s definitely not. The whole thing is enough to make me want to puke. But not before I definitely go out and buy a few bags of Doritos, that one cool brand we now associate with vomit. You can’t buy that kind of synergy.
