If you’ve ever been to a Dan Deacon concert, you know that his set is a dance party full of interactive audience games. It makes perfect sense then that this dance video and interactive game are accompanying the release of his latest track “Meme Generator” off of his latest album Gliss Riffer.
The above video directed by dancer-choreographer Monica Mirabile (you probably know her from the dance collective she co-founded Fluct) is a glitchy futuristic movement study where bodies gyrate and vibrate to Deacon’s hypnotic track. The architectural avante-garde bodices by Chromat which give the dancers each an elegant exoskeleton may be a far cry from Deacon’s infamous sweatpants, but the video is a perfect fit. The pairing of Deacon with these tech-couture looks suggests the new depths explored on his latest album, which extends beyond the indie-electro whimsicality of his first releases.
You can play the game which remixes four of the dances from the video on Deacon’s web site.
