Not too long ago, footage surfaced of Crystal Castles performing a bleak, ravey new song at Australia’s Parklife Festival, and now it’s come to us in a better format than a recording from someone’s camera phone. Today, Pitchfork posted a stream of the song, “Plague,” presumably off the duo’s upcoming, as-yet-untitled, third release. This, more than anything they’ve released so far, sounds like it would be appropriate to soundtrack one of the Resident Evil movies (which is saying something because “zombie obstacle course” is Crystal Castles’ #1 setting). Above all though, we should be thanking Ethan Kath and Alice Glass for releasing this song today of all days, when the RPatz-KStew cheating scandal has so many young people questioning the future and accepting the certainty of death. Look forward to thrashing dispassionately alone in your room/in a large strobe-lit concert hall with your peers later this summer, when Crystal Castles releases their new album and then goes on tour.
