Congressman Mark Takano (D-CA) is the first openly gay, non-white member of Congress in our country’s history and a former public school teacher, so you’d figure he’s probably a cooler guy than most of the stuffy plutocrats he’s forced to work with day in, day out—dudes like Steve King and Louis Gohmert who are just anthropomorphized pairs of crusted boxer briefs, trailing discharge and bile wherever they go. But how cool, exactly? Cool enough to use Kendrick Lamar in a meme chiding Senator Mitch McConnell (R-U Kidding Me?, lol, sorry it’s a slow day) for his role in helping to block President Obama’s Senate confirmations.

“The blocking of Senate confirmations has gotten out of hand. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid may be forced to call votes today in an attempt to change the Senate rules and end the gridlock. Let’s hope Senator Mitch McConnell does the right thing,” he wrote on his Tumblr, followed by: “Good Kid M.A.A.D City; a favorite among my staff.” A Congressman with a Tumblr and a rap-loving staff? He’s got my vote (because I am a millennial and dazzled by such things). As of press time, the reference was still over McConnell’s head.
