Last night at the 2013 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Awards gala, there were 2 things to look forward to: seeing what the coterie of designers, models and celebrities wore on the red carpet, and hearing the actual winners (and runners up) announced. Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osbourne of Public School took the win and its corresponding $300,000 cash prize, a nice follow-up to their CFDA Swarovski Award For Menswear earlier this year. Runners-up were jewelry designer Marc Alary and modern eveningwear’s man Juan Carlos Obando, each of whom will receive $100K.
Congratulations are in order not only for the winners, but also the myriad of finalists who must know by now that sometimes it takes multiple nominations to score an award. It’s so uplifting to see growing labels get an infusion of cash in this unpredictable struggleconomy, and equally importantly, the mentorship to put it to good use.
