We’re confident in our biased generalization when we say that Christian music loves finding sneaky ways to disguise ignorant, oft oppressive messages with fake smiles (sometimes tears), optimistic melodies and that creepy mindless chant, “Seize the day!”
Today, MH Weibe, a self-proclaimed “concerned mother of three,” released a rap song that nailed all the above, taking a stand against a recent Canadian legislation that will require Alberta schools to give students the liberty to use whichever bathroom they choose, regardless of sex. Titled “Gender Bender,” Weibe’s creepy hip-hop debut is the most embarrassing video you’ll watch all day, maybe all month, and provides a not-so-gentle reminder that the world is plagued with fearful bigots.
“This is just a fender bender all over sex and gender,” she sings (“sings”) in a weird informercial-style recording space. “Can we pick another issue than to change our bathrooms for a few?” Weibe urges the government to shift its focus to more “pressing” issues, such as classroom cuts. “Keep male and female washrooms, where our children can pee,” she spits (“spits”) with a serial killer grin. Sounds like she’d benefit from reading our interview with non-binary activists Dark Matter.
Watch the madness, here.
