By playing the Black Widow and Captain Kirk, Scarlett Johansson and Chris Pine have become more recognizable for their action chops than their acting skills. But pretty soon, they may get a chance to go back to basics: The New York Times reports that Johansson and Pine are rumored to star in a Broadway revival of Tennessee Williams’ legendary play, Cat On A Hot Tin Roof. Johansson would play the sexually frustrated Maggie, which Pine would be her alcoholic malcontent of a husband, Brick. (Jeremy Renner, who starred opposite Johansson in The Avengers, is also supposedly a contender for the latter role.) On first look, it’s easy to see why: paired together, Johansson and Pine would almost be as visually compelling as the Elizabeth Taylor/Paul Newman combo that popularized the role in the 1958 film adaptation. Plus, they’d give the production a little more Hollywood oomph, no small token given the recent rush of star-speared Broadway vehicles. We should know soon enough, as the revival is planned for the spring of 2013.
