During New York Fashion Week, accessories designer Chris Habana was tapped by some of the city’s strongest brands to create custom jewelry for their spring ’17 collections, from Gypsy Sport to Chromat—a range of collaborations that solidified Habana is fashion’s most-wanted craftsman, today.
These projects followed the launch of his independent line, My Enemy Jewelry by Chris Habana, which features a trademark range of gold and silver-plated brass pieces. Spring ’17 saw his line’s longtime fusion of classic tribal silhouettes with a punk attitude get reworked, focusing specifically on the resourceful Mursi and Dassanech peoples for inspiration.
Habana’s new campaign, Just Like Us, aims to reflect these African tribes with a cast of young New York creatives, including nightlife personality Sussi, tattoo artist Luka Pagan, models Eddy Leroy Jr. and Farideh Arbanian, and 8-year-old performer Marley “Mars” Zino. Shot by longtime collaborator Daniel Bolliger, the campaign was styled by Habana himself, referencing his younger club kid days in San Francisco.
