The autumnal equinox doesn’t hit the northern hemisphere until Sept. 22, but the chill has already set in with two advance album streams that dropped today. Total Loss, the follow-up to How to Dress Well’s debut Love Remains, and Grizzly Bear’s Shields, which comes to us three years after 2009’s Veckatimest. One is the pleasantly rustic, propulsive, outsized work of a collective of bros that you can probably enjoy with your parents; the other is a solitary slice of rainy night, white boy R&B that your mom is probably not trying to vibe with. So, you know, depending on whether or not you are driving up to Vermont with friends, or sitting alone in your bedroom tonight, the Internet has provided you with two very different paths to the land of the chill. Listen to Shields at NPR, and grab Total Loss at Pitchfork.
