Chicago teen rapper Chief Keef recently relocated to Los Angeles. Having been arrested over a dozen times in the last few years, he left Chiraq mainly to avoid more jail time. But his latest venture—Glo Gang Weed Shop—is an actual good deed. This is likely the first time Keef, a kid known for threatening to kill anyone he doesn’t like, has done something to help sick people.
Keef’s choice of Compton includes several smart marketing ideas. It is in the South Central area of LA, the West Coast’s largest ghetto, a place known internationally for its riots, NWA albums and gang wars. Compton’s folklore is ideal for Keef, who is a member of the Bloods. And it is also the only place in LA with virtually no weed shops. But there are liquor stores on every other block.
Keef’s shop is located at 4803 Compton Blvd. Look at the map and you’ll see a dark hole of LA is medicinal weed-free. That’s South Central. Cali people I know have often wondered why black people don’t just get weed cards and avoid arrest. Simple: they have been denied the shops. So, Chief Keef is helping people. Maybe he’ll start a charity next.
