The throbbing opener to BAATHHAUS’ new self-titled LP, “Sweet Baby” immediately conjures visuals of a seedy queer Berliner bar in the mid-eighties, where fog endlessly billows and sexuality flows as freely as the sweat dripping down boys’ backs.

There’s an overtly dark and dramatic quality to the Chicago quartet’s sound, quietly evocative of AFI frontman Davey Havok’s side project Blaqk Audio; a comfortable level of Corey Hart-style campiness makes its rounds on the LP, as well, recalling the singer’s 1983 hit, “I Wear My Sunglasses At Night” with a six-feet-under Nine Inch Nails twist.
