With such an impeccable catalogue of absolutely indestructible hits from over the years, the only problem with doing a Phil Collins cover is the problem in choosing which one to go with. That, and not fucking it up. Chicago duo IDYLL have acquitted themselves well on both fronts here, with their eerie, dark interpretation of “Another Day in Paradise.”
The band, comprised of producer Jojo Yang and vocalist Angelina Lucero, whose voice you may recognize from collaborations with Jerome LOL (who we’ve long loved here), say they picked the track for a couple of reasons: “Not only does it have a great message about not turning a blind eye to people in need, it’s got a synth hook that is catchy AF!”
“The original track has a fairly bright upbeat tone to it and we tried to put an IDYLL spin on things by making the track a bit darker and airy to match it’s overall message,” they told me over email.
IDYLL’s debut full length is due out on Friends of Friends later this year. Check out more from them here.
