Anyone who watched One Tree Hill knows that Chad Michael Murray is one romantic dude. I get chills just thinking of that time he said to Peyton “It’s you, Peyton” (right after scoring the championship basket, natch) and kissed her in a way no one kisses in high school.
Yes, I know Lucas Scott is a fictional character and Chad Michael Murray is just the actor that plays him, but that doesn’t make him any less qualified to write the “romance thriller” we all need, nay, deserve right now. Coauthored by romance novel writer extraordinaire Heather Graham, the plot of Murray’s novel, American Drifter, came to him in a dream. Sigh, my heart.
“The dream had played out so vividly, as if I was a fly on the wall watching this tale go down,” Murray told Us. “Also, at that time, I had been searching for a story that would resonate with the youth of the world in a way that would make us feel the light and excitement for adventure.”
Murray’s book doesn’t hit shelves until November 2017 and given that I’m an adult, I probably won’t read it. But in this sad, messed up, confusing time, it’s important to find little things, no matter how silly, that make you smile, and just the notion of CMM, Lucas Scott, penning a romance novel whilst gazing wistfully at a portrait of Peyton Sawyer does just that.
