Few can turn down free access to a good show- and after seeing the impressive line-up that Celebrate Brooklyn has to offer for their upcoming summer festival, we can’t wait to pull out the picnic blanket and take camp at Prospect Park’s bandshell. The Celebrate Brooklyn Performing Arts Festival will kick start their 33rd annual summer of music, dance, theater, and film at the Prospect Park Bandshell Friday, June 10th, with folk visionary Andrew Bird. Those with purchased tickets for the opening night gala preceding Bird’s performance will be treated to dinner and dancing. The festival, which is sponsored by BRIC Arts, seeks to advance access and understanding of arts by presenting free and low-cost programming; a mission that has kept Celebrate Brooklyn so successful over the years. BRIC, which has been nourishing contemporary art, and community media programs that reflect Brooklyn’s creativity and diversity since 1979, reaches up to a million Brooklyn residents each year with accessible programs, exhibits, and education programs.
While benefit performances of Celebrate Brooklyn by Animal Collective, Sufjan Stevens, and Bon Iver have long been sold-out, a notable number of free events have us marking our calendars. Visit Celebrate Brooklyn’s official website fora a full list of event information, dates, locations, and performances here.
