Last night, a 30-foot-by-30-foot section of the ceiling at Minneapolis’ legendary First Avenue nightclub collapsed, causing injuries to at least three concert attendees. The incident took place during rock outfit Theory of a Deadman’s set, when pipes began spewing water once the ceiling gave way.
“Water was coming from the ceiling like rain and people were trying to stay out of it,” said a witness to CBS. “People somewhat stampeded out of the way. It looked like a sprinkler was going off.”
Home to multiple scenes in Prince’s iconic 1984 film Purple Rain, First Avenue is a vital player in American music history that extends far beyond its Minneapolis community.
