Catherine Coulson, Beloved Log Lady, Has Died

We had prayed this day would never come, but Catherine Coulson, the actress who played everyone’s favorite Twin Peaks character, The Log Lady, has died of cancer at 71. She was set to reprise her iconic role on the forthcoming reboot of the show.

“Today I lost one of my dearest friends, Catherine Coulson. Catherine was solid gold. She was always there for her friends — she was filled with love for all people — for her family — for her work. She was a tireless worker. She had a great sense of humor — she loved to laugh and make people laugh. She was a spiritual person — a longtime TM meditator. She was the Log Lady,” said David Lynch in a statement. She certainly was.

A longtime colleague of Lynch, she served as assistant director on his debut feature, Eraserhead. It was on the set of that film that the idea for The Log Lady was born.

Coulson once described The Log Lady as “the most normal person on the show.” That is not true, but she will be sorely missed.
