Quentin Dupieux is best known as Mr. Oizo, the idiosyncratic techno producer who last decade blessed humanity with this. Lately, however, he’s been making a name for himself as a filmmaker. Last year, his gonzo movie Rubber, about steaming mad tire that kills people with its psychic powers, screened at Cannes to a chorus of “what the fucks?” and “rrrrrights.” (Both good things!) This year, Dupieux has returned the Riviera with his short film Wrong Cops, which just had its premiere.
The short stars Mark Burnham as an unbalanced cop named Duke who sells weed by stuffing it in dead rats. Then, because this is the only logical plot development, he encounters a man (played by Marilyn Manson) jamming out on his headphones, and decides to teach him what good music is. The outcome is as ridiculous as you’d expect. This short is marked as “Chapter 1,” so we can probably expect more of this insanity from Dupieux.
