The story of a California nursing home nurse who was said to be one of 3 winners of this week’s massive Powerball lottery was such a feel good outcome when it was reported earlier this week. But like everything else in this shit-crusted hell we look at our phones on, it turned out to be fake.
Adding to the compelling story, Shlomo Rechnitz, the woman’s boss at the Park Avenue Healthcare & Wellness Centre in Pomona, bought thousands of tickets for his employees. The 56 year old mother of seven couldn’t believe it when one her children called her to say she had won. Probably because he was making it up, it turns out. The Daily News writes:
The nurse’s son went so far as to send her a picture of what he said was the winning ticket, Levy said.
“It’s a joke. It’s a prank…by my brother,” the 56-year-old nurse’s daughter Jennifer told the Daily News from her house in Pomona on Thursday evening.
“It’s embarrassing. This is too much for us,” she said, visibly upset by all the fuss.
Rechnitz, who called the ruse “despicable”, will reportedly send the woman and her family on a nice vacation. It’s not a billion dollars, but I’m sure it will be a good time.
