“For the track ‘Real Sugar’ we wanted to create something that felt like a scene ripped from a feature film,” the video’s directors Michael Raines and Garret Curtis explain. “The two leads could be lovers, victims, perpetrators – you name it.”
It seems more likely that they’re all three, as the video’s story of a rather intense baking sessions, focused almost entirely on a couple’s intertwined hands working in unison to both delightful and insidious purposes unfolds.
“We were thinking of Alfred Hitchcock, Luis Bunuel and Robert Bresson, who so cleverly were able to strip down actions to the point of fetish, which is exactly what the song so genuinely does.”
The visuals are well-suited to the track from Portland’s Minden, a breezy, lounge-pop confection, if you’ll pardon the pun, that wraps its intent in an easy to swallow presentation.
Minden’s Sweet, Simple Things is out now on Hit City U.S.A.
