Simply said, Jojo Baby is Chicago queer nightlife—equally the foundation as he is the glue that’s helped to foster the moonlit community and keep it dynamic throughout the past few decades. We recently visited his Wicker Park studio, aptly nicknamed “Jojo Baby’s Closet,” where his boisterous fantasies are somehow packed into an inconceivably tight space.

Handmade dolls glossed with voodoo love oils, a Greer Lankton shrine commemorating Jojo’s iconic mentor, and rows of miniature mary jane shoes fill the Closet, as Jojo “puts on the Goddess” for a night of hosting at Chicago’s Debonair Social Club.
