+

For NYFW this season, BULLETT is excited to present FASHUN TWEEK 2.0, featuring three evening fashion presentations to highlight a selection of New York’s freshest designers. This year, I Still Love You NYCSagan Incubator Fund’s MúsedWhatever 21 and Snowy Wilderness, as well as Stella and Paradox Vested Relics will present their collections at ARROJO studios in Manhattan. With makeup direction by Julio Sandino, additional performances by our favorite artists and DJs, FASHUN TWEEK 2.0 is a fusion of the city’s strongest new talent.

Get to know Stella and Paradox Vested Relics ahead of their presentations tonight:

Describe your brand in 5 words.

Retro, punk, kawaii, eccentric, chic.

What are some of your references this season?

I wanted to create a wearable landscape of tropical greenery—a living electric jungle of hothouse flowers.

How does this collection compare to your previous work?

With this showcase, I wanted to pull focus toward my favorite fashion component: the hat. I’ve always focused heavily on headwear with all of my work and this collection will be exclusively focused on elaborate hat design, using the visor as a reference point.

Describe your customer’s perfect night out.

This collection echoes a night out at the late Greenhouse night club in NYC—a humid disco-filled space with neon lights, tangles of foliage and exotic beauty.

Give us a visual preview, if you can.

How do you define New York fashion?

I love how endlessly chic NYC is. I am inspired by New Yorkers’ need to be unique and stylish, but still practical, as we are an active city of commuters. The element of practicality entwined with NYC’s perfectly pressed, yet over-the-top, stand-out approach to dress is ever inspiring to me.

If this collection was a song, what would it be?

This entire album.

Describe your brand in 5 words.

Inventive, prudent, multidisciplinary, independent, collaborative.

What are some of your references this season?

Just the usual conflicting extremes, exploring the perverse, trying to understand a love or hate of something—in this case ‘going Greek.’ There’s a paradox between the idea of fraternity and the reality of a social situation that breeds abuse, namely, hazing. The Stanford Prison Experiment was a big influence. I’ve noticed that the red plastic cup has become such a symbol of a lifestyle and pop culture in general.

How does this collection compare to your previous work?

The collections evolve slowly with a consistent vocabulary, so the concept may be a fresh direction but a lot of construction goes back to processes PVR did in the ’90s while just starting out. The last collection, called ‘UNDER CONSTRUCTION,’ was much more deconstructed and unfinished. This collection has an absurdly everydayness to it.

Describe your customer’s perfect night out.

Our client base is so diverse in age, taste, profession and background that I could only say when our clients who are also friends come together, we’d rather be in private.

Give us a visual preview, if you can.

How do you define New York fashion?

NY fashion is defined by the mentality of being a New Yorker. There are so many different schools of highly stylized thought. It’s how daily life treats you. People are fun to read. It’s entertainment and expression. PVR is non-judgemental. I love a look that keeps people guessing, especially on us.

If this collection was a song, what would it be?

Yeasayer’s ‘Ambling Alp’ and Grimes’ ‘Oblivion.’ I love how the root of the song is darker than the execution of it, kind of like Paradox Vested Relics.
