Bullett Loves: Juergen Teller for Céline Spring 2013

+

The celebrated Juergen Teller Woo! show just closed at the ICA but if you missed it, no worries—some of the photographer’s best work is all over the newsstands right now. Teller shot Céline’s Spring 2013 campaign—as he’s done for Phoebe Philo every season since she took reign of the house—but this one is especially special because of those shoes.

The Céline Spring 2013 “poolside fur” footwear—the Sesame Street covered pumps and the Birkenstock lined slip-ons—are, in an even tie (and just try and argue me on this one), the greatest shoes of the season. Are they seasonably anachronistic and doubtlessly impossible to maintain? Maybe. But who cares. All that matters is that, when I slipped my pale winter feet into the Big Bird yellow version of Philo’s fur pumps at the Dover Street Market last week, every hair on my pale winter legs stood up in delight and it felt like a summer sun was pouring out from my soul. That irrational passion, and this campaign, is fashion at its best. The sugar on the crust of it all: model Daria Werbowy’s own golden leg hair is oh-so-subtly visible in Juergen’s deck-side shot of the shoes.
