Italian disco legend Giorgio Moroder is getting ready to release Déjà Vu, his first album in decades, and to mark the import of the occasion, he’s tapped a stellar lineup of guests to breathe life into his electronic compositions Kylie Minogue, Charli XCX and Sia. All of which sounds great, but wait, what? because he’s also got Britney H. Spears on this thing singing a cover of Suzanne Vega’s “Tom’s Diner.” What a world.
“Britney came to my management company with the idea to do a particular song with me, which was interesting because usually it’s the other way, with the producer offering a song,” Moroder explained to Rolling Stone a while back.
So is the dang thing any good? Hard to say, because what does “good” mean really when you break it down to its essence? There are numerous plausible scenarios under which it could have been a lot worse, I think it’s fair to say that. No one is likely to argue with that concept.
