‘Breath Easy’ With D.C. Weird-Pop Band Fellow Creatures

“Do you wanna breathe easy?” goes the refrain to “Breathe Easy” from Fellow Creatures, and coming from them, it sounds like the most alluring proposal ever. Yes. Yes I do. Show me the way.

The song doesn’t offer up any clear cut answers, just a gallivanting weird-pop run through layered synth textures and percussion leading up to the gloriously repeated interrogative.

“‘Breathe Easy’ is a song about doubt, geography and trying too hard, the D.C. group’s Will McKindley-Ward explains. “A couple moves from suburbia to the city to the country, seeking a good place and finding mostly each other, each time, starting over. Square One is a funny place to be. It’s so uncomplicated and empty. We don’t want to be there until we’ve left.”

Fellow Creatures’ debut self-titles album is out April 6, 2016.
