It’s impossible to forget Christina Aguilera’s early aughts Stripped era, when leather assless chaps were to be worn grabbing morning coffee and hijacking “urban culture” was safe from post-Internet Social Justice Warriors. London menswear designer Bobby Abley paid tribute to Xtina’s raunchiest pursuit during his fall ’16 presentation this week, sending a pair of models down the runway with hilarious allusions to the peroxide songstress.
One look saw a model in drag donning Aguilera’s black ‘n’ blonde braided locks, and a sweater stamped with that pounding Redman-assisted single title, “Dirrty.” Another outfit had a more straightforward, “I Heart Xtina,” statement emblazoned across a blue furry pullover with matching shorts. The move was true to Abley’s pop-obsessed ethos (check his Instagram for prove), and a nice switch from his signature exploration of Disney cartoons.
