A while back we posted a mix from Texas Mike called FLWRS Vol 3, that was one of our favorite playlists for weeks. As a followup, the Boston-based DJ has a completely different approach from that mixes’ blend of hip hop and electronic chill on Road Trips. It’s a love letter beamed straight from the broken heart of the 2000s emo boom.
“My friend Jeremy @JKRealize asked me to DJ an emo night he does sporadically called Tell All Your Friends but I wasn’t able to DJ it for various reason which sucked, so to make it up to all my friends that wanted to see me play I made this mix,” he says. “I called it Road Trips, ‘a short mix for long drives’, because when I was younger and traveling several hours just to see a band play, the music for those drives was crucial. Something everyone could sing along to especially.”
There’s plenty of that here, from familiar hits from the likes of Jimmy Eat World, and Panic! At the Disco, to emo-head classics from Hawthorne Heights and Story of the Year. Check out the tracklist and mix below.
