If you know anything about 50 Shades of Grey, it’s probably that the series started out as Twilight fan fiction, it’s going to be made into a movie, and that it allows married middle aged women to live an erotic fantasy life that their real youth never came anywhere close to. As if you needed any reason to never go within 5 feet of those books (or conversely, to start reading them immediately), author E.L. James revealed something pretty goofy about her creative process. Vulture spotted a quote in Business Insider where James talks about the music she listens to when she’s writing love scenes. ”I have songs that I write sex to. One of them is the Black Eyed Peas’ ‘Sexy.’ That’s a very sexy song.” So Christian Grey is all about putting on the classical music when he’s getting down, but when James is authoring lines about the fictional business magnate pulling tampons out of vaginas, she’s listening to trite, Top 40 pablum. Makes perfect sense, right?
