The frenzy that is NYFW has officially begun, and in celebration, Barneys New York has partnered with designer John Galliano to create exclusive Maison Margiela window displays at its NYC Madison Avenue Flagship. The collaboration is marked a deconstructed look that’s noticeably reflective of Galliano’s creative vision at the house.
Dennis Freeman, Barneys’ creative director, described the project as an invitation inside the world of Margiela: “Our collaboration with John Galliano started with a very in-depth discussion about his inspiration and design environment,” he said. “We met at his studio, which is really a cabinet of curiosities, and talked about his creative thinking from a very holistic point of view. This project is extremely ambitious because it not only addresses the collections at hand, but also expresses his overall artistic process.”
The four different windows highlight pieces from Margiela’s fall ’16 ready-to-wear line, including exact replicas of the hands from Michaelangelo’s Sistine Chapel. Head to Madison Avenue to check out the display, running through Oct. 2.
