Whether or not you’re a fan of Banksy, it would be nice to own a Banksy print (you could always sell it, after all). On June 8th, you could be a recipient of a print by the controversial artist, free of charge! The only catch is you’ve got to be a registered British voter and you’ve gotta vote “against the Conservative incumbent.”
Entitled the “UK Election Souvenir Special,” the print features Banksy’s famous image of a girl releasing a heart-shaped balloon. In this case, however, the balloon is decorated with the Union Jack.
To cover his arse, a lawyer’s note on Instagram states that the print is “a souvenir piece of campaign material” and that it is “in no way meant to influence the choices of the electorate.” It also notes that it is strictly “not for re-sale.”
Can they ensure that the prints cannot be resold? Because one has got to figure that they would be worth a pretty penny. Even so, couldn’t the promise of a free Banksy print sway the vote of a diehard Banksy fan anyway? Sounds fishy to me, but either way sign me up for the inevitable controversy.
