For fall ’16, designer Telfar Clemens seemed to pursue a more conservative client, edging away from some of the more provocative silhouettes he’s pushed for in previous seasons. Perhaps it’s inevitable maturity, or maybe a conscious desire to expand Telfar’s audience, but the formal lineup was certainly an unexpected shift—still strong, though.
Function was an appropriate fixture for Clemens, with zips on trousers and shirts to create transitional, everyday pieces; easy cotton, cozy knitwear and supple leather all had strong presences in the lineup, designed almost entirely in Telfar’s signature tonal palette. There’s always something about Telfar’s straightforward, uniform-like aesthetic that looks too smart to ever feel banal.
