Inspired by David Lynch’s 1984 sci-fi film Dune, Parisian designer Léa Peckre presented a collection this season with sandy deserts in mind. Reflecting these barren landscapes, Peckre’s collection juxtaposed fragility with strength, recalling the gradual, smooth slope of dunes and an austere, tonal color palette.
The SS ’16 showcase aptly titled, “Pearl Born in the Dust,” allowed this reference to inform a redefined power suit, fusing traditionally masculine silhouettes with a body-conscious and deconstructed, asymmetrical edge. Peckre also played with military detailing to represent “daily resistance,” sari jackets as “a wink to ancient bows and arrows,” and a range of textural fabrics from midnight blue Japanese denim to optical white fishnet.
