With The Spirit of BACARDÍ, a family-owned brand is flexing its muscle by launching an inventive new campaign to remind us just how epic they are.
Teaming up with legendary writer Warren Ellis and illustrator Mike Allred, the 152 year-old company has created their very own graphic novel. The story’s hero is Emilio Bacardí, whose father Don Facundo Bacardí Massó founded the company in 1862 in Cuba. The graphic novel takes you through the challenges—think earthquakes, fire, revolution, prohibition, and exile—that have become the foundation that BACARDÍ is built on.
Broken up into 30 chapters, each one on a different website, The Spirit of BACARDÍ recreates Emilio’s life as an historical saga about the resilience of the human spirit. For such a fun, refreshing beverage, it’s pretty heavy stuff. In Chapter 18, which you can see above, Emilio has just been appointed mayor of Santiago de Cuba. The position presents him with new dilemmas and fresh choices. Find out what happens next in Chapter 19 click here, and remember the next time you take a sip of BACARDÍ all the struggle that went into getting that delicious rum on your very grateful taste buds.
