While every media platform’s busy gagging over how Azealia Banks’ new track might be a stab at her longtime industry enemy Iggy Azalea (because famous feuds mean clicks, especially when it’s woman-to-woman), we’re far more excited by the vocal strength Banks showcases on “Used To Being Alone.”
The buzz track follows her rap-heavy return, “The Big Beat,” and features the New York emcee wailing above the same instrumental Azalea used on “My World” in 2011. (Okay, perhaps pinning the two against each other is arguably inevitable, here).
Regardless, this is a musical direction we’re really loving from Banks—undeniable proof she’s genuinely talented and rises far above the “Angry Black Female” archetype so many ignorant outlets love to obsessively box her into. Listen, below:
