A lady friend of mine once said something very incisive about girls who wear hats, namely that “they’re always crazy.” Azealia Banks’ clip for “Van Vogue” is her second video that sees the rapper hatted-up (she also wore a pretty big hat in the clip for “Liquorice”, which was directed by Rankin as well); while she looks pretty cool in it, with the hat shading her face and Banks looking all menacing as a result, you might be thinking “What’s she covering up?” Granted she didn’t come out of the gate with a hat on (remember the pigtails she wore in the “212″ clip?), and her big ol’ crown matches the whole ’90s house feel of the track and its video, so that by itself is enough to justify her choice of accessory. Anyway, even if Azealia Banks is crazy, isn’t that totally appropriate for an aggressive young female MC trying to take over the game?
