Australia’s The Griswolds are in the midst of a crime spree in the video for their new single “If You Wanna Stay”, and nothing can stop them. Except for maybe a devious bartender.
The clip takes the four piece, who’re quickly amassing a fanbase around the world after exploding out of their native Sydney, on a cross country trip of beautiful Australian scenery, all set to their ecstatic, danceable indie pop.
“Making this video was a ton of fun,” told us. “We bought a shitty car and headed a few hours south of Sydney to film for 3 days straight with no sleep. The entire crew were all friends of ours and it made the atmosphere on set like a big party.” The band also, he points out, did all of their own stunts, which, considering the car surfing that goes on is a little impressive, and more than a little worrisome.
Then again, it’s appropriate with song’s theme.
“The song is about dreaming big,” he says. “And cutting off anyone or anything that’s holding you back.”
The Griswolds are on a U.S. tour now, and will perform at Bowery Ballroom in New York on June 18.
