Alejandro Ghersi, more commonly known as Arca, has been slowly working on the follow-up to his 2014 debut album Xen. Aptly titled Mutant, the full-length album is slated for release within the next few months, following Arca’s critically acclaimed co-production credits on Björk’s self-reflective LP Vulnicura.
Today, the Venezuelan producer released the first taste off Mutant with “Soichiro,” named after frequent collaborator Jesse Kanda’s middle name.
A true reflection of Arca’s alien-like sonic universe, the track soars with layers of eerie synths that sound like hydraulics underwater or the mechanics of a lustrous UFO. The video shows Arca slyly writhing in a cloudy neon blue light, adding a subtle, sensual narrative to the complex soundscape on “Soichiro.” Listen, below.
