Ang Lee’s ‘Life of Pi’ Headed to an Award Ceremony Near You

People who saw Prometheus—those who will admit to it in between rounds of complaining about whatever that black goo was, that is—will remember a trailer for Ang Lee’s Life of Pi, in which a young man and a tiger were stranded at sea amidst a swarm of flying fish. It was mysterious, gorgeous, epic, etc., all of those things that generally get an audience interested in a new movie. Today, an extended trailer was released for Lee’s adaptation, and it’s even more intriguing than the first one. Over a montage of wordless images, such as a ship at sea, a glow-in-the-dark whale, dancers, candle ceremonies, tigers, and more, a swelling score introduces one prevailing sentiment: This is a Big Movie, one filled with lots of Feelings, and it should probably be hitting your short list for next year’s Academy Award nominations. It’s out on November 21.
